According to the website, Gigatweet counter, Twitter has crossed 10 Billion tweets (yes, 10,000,000,000th) . This gigantic milestone happened around  6:25 AM IST, March 05, 2010 .

Twitter , the free  social networking and microblogging service started in 2006 , has grown exponentially since then. Tweets are updates of 140 characters which are delivered  to the user’s subscribers who are known as followers.  It crossed 1 Billion tweets in November 2008 and 5 Billion tweets in October 2009.  If it took around 11 months to leap from 1 Billion to 5 Billion, it needed just another 4 months for the next 5 Billion tweets. Wow, Amazing growth, isn’t?

Reportedly, it was a protected profile user who had tweeted this  ”golden tweet”.  But the Twitter API calls doesn’t allow us to view this update of a protected user. But here are the 9999999999 th tweet by @lelamarques and 10000000001 th tweet by @SheSz_FUcINgBAD .

According to Evan Williams ( @ev), the whole twitter team were watching the 10billionth tweet coming on a big board at their office.

Incidently , @robinsloan, who made the 5 Billionth tweet, now works for Twitter. Who knows whether Twitter has already asked for the resume of the “unknown” 10 billionth tweeter ?

So when will Twitter cross the next milestone of 20 billion th tweet ? May be in less than 5 months ?Wait and watch !
